ATLANTA – Rookie Jack Hagstrom (Middleton, Wis.) and senior Will Cross (Nashville, Tenn.) posted a pair of first-half goals, but the Brown men's soccer team could not climb back from an early deficit, as the Bears fell at Georgia State, 3-2, Friday night at the GSU Soccer Complex.

Brown suffered its first defeat of the season to move to 3-1, while Georgia State improved to 3-3 overall.

Georgia State kicked off a wild first half with the opening goal in the 28th minute, when Eddie Wilding converted a penalty kick and then scored again just over three minutes later, giving the home side a two-goal advantage.

Brown broke through at 40:54 when Hagstrom notched his second goal of the season, as he tapped home a deflection from Jack Gorab (Newport Beach, Calif.) to pull the Bears within one, 2-1.

After Casey Shultis responded less than two minutes later with a goal at 42:30, the Bears stormed right back, when Cross found the back of the net with 1:57 left in the stanza to keep the visitors within one goal at halftime. Junior Mike Leone (Saint Clair Shores, Mich.) picked up the assist on the play.

Despite the high-scoring opening half, the defenses settled in during the second frame and the Panthers held off the Bears to preserve the one-goal lead.

Junior keeper Erik Hanson (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) made a pair of saves for the Bears, while Greyson Walldorff recorded four stops for the Panthers. Brown outshot Georgia State, 15-12, in the contest. Gorab led all players with four shots.

Brown continues its road trip on Sunday, Sept. 20 when the Bears visit No. 14 Clemson at 2 p.m.
