PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Hannah Rogers (Los Altos, Calif.) scored the final two goals of the contest, including the game-winner 37 seconds into overtime, to push the Brown field hockey team past Bryant, 3-2, in the home opener Saturday afternoon at Goldberger Field.

Brown improves to 2-1 overall, while Bryant drops to 1-5 on the season.

Facing a one-goal deficit with 14 seconds left in regulation, Rogers attacked a rebound in the box and mustered a sliding shot, which bounced off the back of Bryant goalie Marissa Elizardo and into the cage to force overtime.

Brown continued its momentum in extra time as Rogers scored the game-winner at 70:37, pushing in a one-timer from junior Lucy Green (Providence, R.I.) on the right wing to secure the overtime victory.

Rookie Katie Hammaker (Ephrata, Pa.) recorded two saves for the win, while Elizardo registered seven saves for the Bulldogs. Brown outshot the Bulldogs, 23-6, and held a 17-3 edge in corners.

Brown opened up the scoring at 25:04, when Katarina Angus (West Vancouver, BC) hit the bottom left corner off a penalty corner. Emily Arciero (Avon, Conn.) and Anna Masini (Ann Arbor, Mich.) picked up assists on the play.

Bryant answered back at the end of the first half when Victoria Danby knocked home a loose ball in front of the goal to even the score, 1-1, at halftime.

After Bronwyn Walton scored at 60:57, the Bears pulled Hammaker out of the cage with 2:50 remaining, setting up back-to-back corners to maintain pressure before Rogers tied the game.

Brown returns to action tomorrow when the Bears host UMass Lowell at 1 p.m.
