
Field Hockey Faces Bryant, UMass Lowell in Home-Opening Weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University field hockey opens its 2015 home slate this weekend with contests against Bryant University on Saturday at noon and vs. UMass Lowell on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Goldberger Family Field.

LAST WEEKEND
In the team's last outing, the Bears upended Appalachian State, 2-1, at the American University Tournament on a goal from junior Katarina Angus (West Vancouver, British Columbia) with no time remaining. Angus converted on a penalty corner off an insertion from senior Anna Masini (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and a stick stop from senior Emily Arciero (Avon, Conn.).
Freshman goalkeeper Katie Hammaker (Ephrata, Pa.) made five saves in her first collegiate win against the Mountaineers. In Brown's season opener at American, senior Alexis Miller (Caldwell, N.J.) posted her first goal of the season off an assist from Angus.
THE PREVIOUS MATCH-UPS
Brown opened its 2014 season with a 3-0 win vs. Bryant on Sept. 6 and a 2-1 victory at UMass Lowell on Sept. 7. Meghan O'Donnell '15 notched a goal and an assist, and Shannon McSweeney '15 made six saves as the Bears shut out the Bulldogs. Against the River Hawks, O'Donnell netted both goals and McSweeney turned aside four shots.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
Bryant enters the weekend with a 1-4 overall record, including a 4-1 victory over Colgate. Victoria Danby leads the team with 11 points on five goals and an assist. In goal, Marissa Elizardo (three starts, 2.80 GAA) and Jenna Limone (two starts, 4.80 GAA) have split time.
UMass Lowell carries a 4-0 mark into the weekend with wins over Quinnipiac, Providence, Dartmouth, and Holy Cross. Georgia Cowderoy and Jenna Freitas have each logged two goals for the team while Kelsey Federico has played every minute in the cage and recorded a 1.50 GAA. The River Hawks play at Massachusetts on Friday prior to taking on the Bears.
COMING SOON
After its home-opening weekend, Brown plays at Providence College on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 5 p.m. before hosting St. Joseph's on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 2:30 p.m.
