
No. 13 Men's Water Polo Falls at No. 17 Bucknell, 8-7

LEWISBURG, Pa. – No. 13 Brown University men's water polo tied the game midway through the fourth quarter, but No. 17 Bucknell University scored with eight seconds left to take an 8-7 win in the opening game of the Bucknell Invitational on Friday night at Kinney Natatorium.
The Bears (3-2) rallied with three goals in the fourth quarter, but the host Bison (3-2) pulled out the win in the waning moments after scoring just once in the period's first 7:52.
Senior Will Klein (Pasadena, Calif.) and sophomore Tyler Kirchberg (Orinda, Calif.) each netted two goals to lead the Bears while juniors Yahel Murvitz-Lahav (Tel Aviv, Israel) and Warren Smith (Dallas, Texas) as well as freshman Spencer Carroll (Newport Beach, Calif.) posted one goal apiece.
Klein added three ejections drawn and Carroll came up with three steals. Senior Matty Gallas (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) compiled two steals and two field blocks while junior Jake Wyatt (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) dished out two assists.
In goal, junior Luke Weiser (Los Alamitos, Calif.) made seven saves.
Kirchberg opened the game's scoring just over two minutes into the game before the Bison registered the first quarter's next three goals to take a 3-1 lead after one period.
Klein logged the second quarter's only goal with 3:36 to play in the stanza as Bucknell brought a 3-2 edge into halftime.
After a Bucknell goal to open the second half, Murvitz-Lahav brought the Bears within 4-3 at the 5:59 mark of the third quarter. The Bison scored just over three minutes later before Carroll scored to cut the visitors' deficit to 5-4 with 2:04 left in the third. The hosts tallied one more goal in the frame to gain a 6-4 advantage heading into the final quarter.
The Bears began their comeback in the fourth frame behind goals from Kirchberg and Klein to knot the score at 6-6 with 5:34 remaining. Bucknell went up 7-6 less than 20 seconds later before Smith tied it again at 7-7 with 3:41 left. The Bison then pulled out the victory with their goal inside of the last 10 seconds.
Next, Brown continues play at the 20-game Bucknell Invitational tomorrow with contests against No. 18 Johns Hopkins (9 a.m.) and No. 15 Navy (3:15 p.m.).
