SAN ANTONIO – Coming off a strong rookie campaign in 2014-15, rising sophomore swimmer Riley Springman (Orlando, Fla.) qualified for next summer's USA Olympic Trials after a strong performance at the U.S. Nationals in San Antonio this afternoon.
Springman's time of 2:01.10 in the 200 Butterfly beat the Olympic Trial cut mark of 2:01.99, which sends the sophomore to Omaha, Nebraska for a chance to compete for a spot on Team USA in the 2016 Rio Olympics. The Olympic Trials are scheduled for June 26-July 3, 2016 at the CenturyLink Center.
As a freshman, Springman broke UMass' Joseph R. Rogers Pool record in the 200 Butterfly (1:50.76) and also set a Brown record in the 200 IM at the Ivy League Championships (1:48.39). He also boasted a fifth place finish at Ivies with a 1:45.96 performance in the 200 Butterfly finals.
