
Women's Lacrosse Secures Nation's Top GPA, Academic Honors from IWLCA

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's lacrosse has earned IWLCA Merit Squad and Academic Honor Squad status, and eight of the team's student-athletes have gained IWLCA/Zag Sports Academic Honor Roll honors, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association announced.
Brown repeated as the team with the top GPA in Division I, garnering Merit Squad status for the second consecutive year.
The Bears' Academic Honor Roll members include seniors Julia Carrellas (Middletown, R.I.), Alyssa DiBona (Media, Pa.), Janie Gion (Northfield, Ill.), Meghan O'Brien (Bethesda, Md.), and Kellie Roddy (Poway, Calif.) as well as juniors Sarah Nesi (Westport, Conn.), Lauren Toy (Kentfield, Calif.), and Dianne Vitkus (Skaneateles, N.Y.).
Brown tied for first among Division I institutions with eight honorees while Carrellas and Gion each took home the honors for the second time.
In order to attain IWLCA Academic Honor Roll accolades, a student-athlete must hold a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher and have reached junior academic status. A total of 838 student-athletes from 256 schools won the award, including 256 student-athletes from 80 Division I institutions.
To gain recognition as an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad, a program must maintain a team GPA of 3.0 or greater. This year, the IWLCA bestowed the laurels upon 266 total schools, including 87 Division I institutions.
