PRINCETON, N.J. – Seniors Abby Bunting (Wellesley, Mass.) and Janie Gion (Northfield, Ill.) each recorded four points in their final collegiate contest, but the Brown women's lacrosse team fell victim to a 14-8 setback at #10 Princeton on Saturday.
Brown wraps up the 2015 season at 7-8 overall and 1-6 in Ivy play, while the Tigers (12-3, 7-0 Ivy) sew up the outright Ivy League title and automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with the win.
Gion's hat trick led the way for the Bears, while Bunting chipped in with two goals and two assists. Junior Lauren Toy (Kentfield, Calif.) finished up the season as the team-leader in scoring with 34 points after chipping in with a goal and registering a game-high seven shots on Saturday.
Bears freshman Hannah Langmuir (Providence, R.I.) set up the first strike of the contest, as her backdoor feed found Lauren Toy, who found the back of the net to give the Brown a 1-0 lead just 1:22 in.
After a six-goal outburst gave the host Tigers a five-goal cushion, the Bears got two goals back in a span of 1:26 off the sticks of Bunting and Lindsey Repp (Scarsdale, N.Y.) before Anya Gersoff gave Princeton a 7-3 lead entering the half.
The Bears got off to a fast start once again in the second half, as Bunting connected on her second marker of the day and 15th of the season just 65 seconds into the second stanza. Princeton's Olivia Hompe and Brown's Janie Gion (Northfield, Ill.) swapped goals as the Tigers held an 8-5 lead with 21:48 to play.
Despite adding five goals in the second half, the Bears couldn't close the gap as the Tigers got seven past goalkeeper Kellie Roddy (Poway, Calif.) in the final 30 minutes, despite the senior playing strong in goal with 12 saves on Saturday.
Junior Dianne Vitkus (Skaneateles, N.Y.) added a goal in the second half as she completed a career season with seven goals and two assists. Freshman Emma Dahle (Wynnewood, Pa.) ended the season with a seven-game point streak after adding an assist on Saturday.
Erin McMunn paced the Tigers with five goals on Saturday.
