Second Half Outburst Leads Women's Lax Over UMass-Lowell, 13-6

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Facing a halftime deadlock, the Brown women's lacrosse team exploded for 11 goals in the final 30 minutes to claim a 13-6 win over the UMass-Lowell Riverhawks on Tuesday night at Stevenson Field.

The Bears (7-6) conclude their 2015 home slate and will hit the road for the final two contests of the season. UMass-Lowell drops to 0-14 in their first season as a Division I program.

For the second straight game, the Bears were led by freshman Lindsey Repp (Scarsdale, N.Y.), who tallied her first career hat trick in the second half on Tuesday. Goalkeeper Kellie Roddy surrendered just five goals with turning away eight shots in 54:52 of action.

Dianne Vitkus (Skaneateles, N.Y.) and Lauren Toy (Kentfield, Calif.) also chipped in with a pair of goals each, with Emma Dahle (Wynnewood, Pa.), Janie Gion (Northfield, Ill.), and Sarah Nesi (Westport, Conn.) each adding a goal and an assist.

Senior Alyssa DiBona (Media, Pa.) recorded her first career assist and hauled in four draws for the Bears, while Hannah Langmuir (Providence, R.I.) netted her first career goal.

Emily Wright posted three of the Riverhawks' six goals on Tuesday.

The teams battled to a first half draw at 2-2 after Toy and Vitkus connected for the Bears in a defensive opening 20 minutes.

Wright's third of the game gave the visitors a 3-2 edge just 1:04 into the second half, but from there the Bears found their rhythm and outscored the Riverhawks 11-3 over the final 29 minutes of play.

A 7-1 run over a 15-minute span propelled Brown to a 9-4 lead after Richael Walsh (Westwood, Mass.) converted on a free position attempt with 12:51 to play.

Repp capped her hat trick and the Brown scoring with 4:08 to play, as her speed gave the Brown offense a boost in the second half.

Up next, the Bears visit Dartmouth on Saturday in the first of two Ivy road games to close out the season.
