
Field Hockey Posts Nation's Top GPA

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown field hockey team topped the entire nation in team GPA and earned 2014 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team recognition in an announcement made by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association on Monday.
The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieved a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the first semester of the 2014-15 academic year.
The Bears finished first overall out of 71 qualified schools with a 3.59 cumulative team GPA, edging out Drexel (3.57) and Sacred Heart (3.55). Rutgers (3.51) and Virginia Commonwealth (3.50) rounded out the top-five.
Seniors Shannon McSweeney (Boxborough, Mass.) and Meghan O'Donnell (Winchester, Mass.) earned Academic All-Ivy accolades back in December.
The 2014 Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA Scholars of Distinction will be released on Monday, March 16th, with the National Academic Squad being released on Monday, March 23rd.
