Freshman Marissa Hudgins' goal with 11 seconds remaining in regulation gave the Brown women's lacrosse team a dramatic 11-10 win over Holy Cross on Tuesday at Stevenson Field.
The Bears and goaltender Kellie Roddy (Poway, Calif.) improve to 4-1 this season, while the Crusaders fall to 1-6 overall this season.
Brown got a hat trick and an assist each from Lauren Toy (Kentfield, Calif.) and Richael Walsh (Westwood, Mass.), while Hudgins (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Abby Bunting (Wellesley, Mass.) each found the back of the net twice.
DIBONA CLEANING UP THE DRAWS
Senior co-captain Alyssa DiBona (Media, Pa.) posted a career high with seven draw controls against Holy Cross on Tuesday, as the Bears held an 18-4 advantage over the Crusaders in that category. DiBona tops the Ivy League and ranks 18th nationally with 4.40 draw controls per game.
TOY STORY
Junior Lauren Toy paces the Brown offense with 15 points on 11 goals and four assists over five games. Toy has netted hat tricks in three of those five contests in 2015.
FINDING HUR GROOVE
Rookie Yuna Hur ranks second on the Bears in scoring with nine goals and 10 points, while uncorking a team high 22 shots.
A young Bears defense has had a strong start in 2015, surrendering just 7.60 goals per game and posting the ninth-best save percentage in the nation (.519).
ROWDY RODDY
Goaltender Kellie Roddy ranks second overall in the Ivy League and 19th nationally with a .507 save percentage.
SERIES HISTORY – YALE
The Bears are 7-32-1 all-time against the Bulldogs, with their last victory in the series coming in 2011, an 11-4 win on Senior Day at Stevenson Field.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Yale enters Saturday's tilt at Stevenson Field at 3-3 overall after dropping a 9-3 decision to unbeaten UMass on Wednesday. Erin Magnuson leads the Bulldogs with 16 points (10g, 6a), while senior captain Kerri Fleishhacker boasts a team-high 11 goals.
Nicole Daniggelis' hat trick led the Bulldogs to a 9-8 win over the Bears in last season's finale. The Bears held a 4-3 halftime lead and a 6-5 lead with just under 20 minutes to play, but the Bulldogs responded with a 4-2 run in the final minutes to claim the Ivy win.
