
Hobbie's 17 Points Leads Brown Over Dartmouth, 67-64

Providence, R.I. - Brown sophomore guard JR Hobbie scored 17 points and senior forward Rafael Maia added 10 points and 13 rebounds, to lead the Bears to their first Ivy League win of the season, 67-64, over Dartmouth at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
Brown improves to 10-13 overall and 1-5 in the Ivy League, while Dartmouth falls to 8-12, 1-5 in Ivy play.
With the Bears holding a 63-59 lead, Big Green forward Connor Boehm connected on a trey from the corner with 33 seconds remaining to pull to within one point, 63-62.
Brown sophomore guard Tavon Blackmon connected on two free throws to put the Bears back up by three points, 65-62, with 25 seconds left on the clock. Following a Dartmouth turnover, Blackmon converted two more free throws to ice the game with 14 seconds left, 67-62.
"It feels good to get an Ivy win," said Brown head coach Mike Martin. "We've been playing some good basketball and tonight we were engaged and ready to play."
Bears' sophomore guard JR Hobbie broke out of his shooting slump, connecting on 5-of-8 treys and 2-of-2 free throws in scoring a season high 17 points.
Maia posted his fourth a double-double of the season for the Bears, pounding the boards 13 rebounds while adding 10 points.
"Raffa's defensive energy was outstanding and our other players fed off his effort," said Martin.
Junior forward Cedric Kuakumensah grabbed 11 rebounds, while sophomore Steven Spieth and Blackmon had eight points each for Brown.
The Bears were also able to get 20 points of production off their bench, with senior Dockery Walker (7 points), freshman Tyler Williams (6 points) and freshman Jason Massey (7 points) contributing.
Freshman Miles Wright paced the Big Green 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field. Senior Gabas Maldunas scored nine points and pulled down a game high 15 rebounds.
Trailing 18-14, with 8:49 left in the opening half, Brown took the lead with an 8-0 run to pull ahead, 22-18, on a lay-up by freshman Tyler Williams with 5:51 remaining.
The Bears kept up the offensive and defensive pressure for the remainder of the half, taking their largest lead at intermission, 33-25, on a late trey by junior JR Hobbie.
Brown travels to Princeton and Penn next weekend in a pivotal Ivy League weekend. The Bears will face the Tigers on Friday, February 13 at Jadwin Gym in a game televised by the American Sports Network at 8pm. Brown then plays the Quakers in Philadelphia on Saturday, February 14 with tip-off at 7pm.
