CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Brown women's swimming and diving team ended day one action of the 2015 Ivy League Championships in fifth place with 243 points. The host Crimson led the pack after day one with 449 points, followed by Princeton (435) and Yale (410).
"A strong morning session of prelims led to a very solid night of finals action," said Head Coach Kate Kovenock. "Reia Tong was immense for us as the anchor of the 200 Freestyle relay, while Kate Dillione's NCAA "B" cut performance in the 50 Freestyle give us momentum heading into tomorrow."
The quartet of Kate Dillione, Aja Grande, Sarah Cronin, and Reia Tong gave the Bears one of their top finishes in the 200 Freestyle Relay in recent memory, as they clocked in with a third place finish. Tong's furious charge on the anchor run allowed the Bears to leapfrog Columbia for the top-three finish.
Dillione and Tong also boasted Brown's lone A-Final appearances on the night, finishing fourth and seventh respectively in the 50 Free.
Elly Vitek's strong performance in the B-Final of the 500 Free (4:54.78) gives the Bears momentum heading into day two action.
Day two from Blodgett Pool kicks off at 11 a.m. tomorrow with preliminary time trials of the 200 Medley Relay.
