PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's soccer freshman goalkeeper Christine Etzel has earned Ivy League Co-Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season, the conference office announced on Monday.
A native of Madison, Conn., Etzel made seven saves and recorded her fourth shutout of the season as Brown beat Penn 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in the home finale for 39th-year Bears head coach Phil Pincince.
Etzel twice turned aside dangerous headers from the Quakers in the mixer to keep the clean sheet. She posted three saves in the first half and four stops in the second period.
For the season, Etzel has notched a 0.99 goals-against average, a .837 save percentage, 72 total saves, and a 6-6-2 record alongside her four shutouts. She ranks second in the Ivy League in both total saves and save percentage. She also earned Ivy League Co-Rookie of the Week on Sept. 28.
Etzel and the Bears return to action in their season finale at Yale on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 4 p.m. in the final game for Brown's Class of 2016 and Pincince.
