
Frost, Killian Post Double-Doubles in Season Finale for Volleyball vs. Harvard

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Seniors Shannon Frost and Rachele Killian both recorded double-doubles in their final collegiate match as Brown University volleyball dropped a 3-1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-20, 25-20) decision to Harvard University on Saturday night at the Pizzitola Sports Center in its regular season finale.
The Bears (10-16, 4-10 Ivy) tied the match at one set apiece before the visiting Crimson (14-10, 10-4 Ivy) gained the last two frames to clinch at least a share of the Ivy League title.
Frost (Santa Ana, Calif.) posted her fifth double-double of the season and her fourth in her last five matches with a team-high 12 kills and 13 digs while Killian (Laguna Beach, Calif.) notched 18 assists and 10 digs for her sixth double-double of the year and her fifth in the last seven contests.
Freshman Sabrina Stillwell (Laguna Beach, Calif.) tallied 10 kills to finish the year with double-digit kills in 19 of 26 matches, and sophomore libero Melissa Cairo (Hillsborough, Calif.) registered a team-high 19 digs – her 23rd match this year with double-figure digs.
Continuing a balanced effort for the Bears, sophomore Sarah Lucenti (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) totaled a team-best 19 assists and eight digs. Junior Payton Smith (Atherton, Calif.), sophomore Shirin Tooloee (San Jose, Calif.), and senior McKenna Webster (Solana Beach, Calif.) logged seven, seven, and six kills respectively while senior Carolyn Curran (University Heights, Ohio) added four digs.
Freshman Courtney Palm (St. Louis, Mo.) chalked up a career-high eight blocks with six block assists and two block solos.
Harvard opened the first set with an 11-5 lead and pushed its advantage to 23-9 later in the frame. The Bears scored six straight points to pull within 23-15 before the Crimson closed the 25-15 set win.
The Bears responded in the second stanza, gaining a 15-13 edge midway through the period. The hosts still led at 23-22 before Smith and Webster finished the 25-23 set win with back-to-back kills. In the frame, Killian compiled eight assists and five digs, and Stillwell terminated on five kills.
Brown remained within 9-8 of Harvard early in the third set before the visitors used an 8-1 run to claim a 17-9 lead. The Bears pulled within 24-20 with a 5-1 spurt before the Crimson took a 25-20 decision in the set. Frost landed four kills in the period.
The hosts gained a 13-10 lead in the fourth set before Harvard used a 7-2 run to pull ahead 17-15. Brown remained within 21-19 late in the period, but the Crimson took four of the match's last five points. Frost registered six kills and seven digs in the final stanza.
Prior to the match, Brown honored the four members of its senior class – Curran, Frost, Killian, and Webster– for their hard work and dedication to the program.
