
No. 12 Brown Men's Water Polo Defeats Conn. College, 18-6

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomores Adam Hersko-RonaTas and Austin Hwang and junior Luke Irwin each scored three goals as No. 12 Brown University men's water polo defeated Connecticut College, 18-6, on Friday night at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.
In a CWPA Northern Division match-up, the Bears (11-3, 5-0 CWPA North) held a 10-1 lead at halftime and did not allow the visiting Camels (0-6, 0-6 CWPA North) to score until 2:04 remained in the second quarter.
Hersko-RonaTas (La Jolla, Calif.), Hwang (Laguna Hills, Calif.), and Irwin (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) paced the Bears' offense while Hwang and Hersko-RonaTas added two assists and one helper respectively.
Senior Will Klein (Pasadena, Calif.) scored two goals, and classmate Matty Gallas (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) dished out three assists.
Sophomore Joe Faller (North Reading, Mass.) netted his first career goal and added two assists. Sophomores Doug Barber (New Haven, Conn.) and Tyler Kirchberg (Orinda, Calif.) and freshmen Travis Bouscaren (Cambridge, Mass.) and Spencer Carroll (Newport Beach, Calif.) each compiled one goal and one assist apiece.
In net, freshman goalkeeper Will Renken (South Pasadena, Calif.) made 10 saves, stopped a penalty shot, and chipped in an assist.
Junior Jake Wyatt (Corona Del Mar, Calif.) distributed two assists, freshman Rico Burke (San Mateo, Calif.) and junior Warren Smith (Dallas, Texas) each scored once, and freshman Santiago Nunez (Miami, Fla.) tacked on an assist.
The hosts took a 5-0 lead after the first quarter with Smith opening the scoring off a cross-pool pass from Wyatt. Kirchberg followed with a goal off a pass from Gallas. Finding success from two meters, Burke and then Irwin twice netted goals from the inside.
Klein posted back-to-back markers to open the second quarter with Gallas providing assists on both plays. Hwang, Carroll, and Faller scored in order to put the Bears up 10-0 before Conn. College notched its first goal with 2:04 to go in the half.
After the Camels notched the second half's first goal, Hersko-Ronatas answered off an assist from Renken prior to a pair of tallies from Hwang, giving Brown a 12-2 edge. Barber and Bouscaren found the back of the net later in the frame as the hosts took a 15-4 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Hersko-RonaTas scored the fourth's initial goal off a rebound off the crossbar prior to a pair of markers from the Camels that cut their deficit to 16-6. Irwin and Hersko-RonaTas concluded the contest's scoring.
Next, Brown continues CWPA Northern Division play at home tomorrow vs. MIT at noon and on Sunday vs. Harvard at 6 p.m. in the team's "Breast Cancer Awareness Game."
