
Women's Hockey Readies For Home Opener Against No. 5 Quinnipiac and Princeton

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's hockey team will open its 2015-16 home slate on Friday, Oct. 30 hosting Quinnipiac at 7:00 in an ECAC tilt. The following day, the Bears will welcome Princeton for a 4:00 p.m. game in another ECAC showdown.

SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC
The Bobcats enter Friday's game with a 4-0-1 overall record and are ranked fifth in both the USCHO.com Poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll. The contest between the Bears will be QU's first ECAC action of the season. Taylar Cianfarano and Melissa Samoskevich lead the team in points with nine apiece. Cianfarano has a team-high in goals (5) while Samoskevich posts a team-best in assists (7). Sydney Rossman has played in net in all five games, recording a .910 save percentage and a 1.77 goals against average. Last weekend (Saturday, Oct. 24) the Bobcats defeated Yale, 6-3, in a game that did not count towards conference play. Quinnipiac is averaging two more goals per game than its opponents (3.80-1.80).
SCOUTING PRINCETON
The Tigers enter Saturday's game with a 2-0-0 record on the season and are receiving votes in both the USCHO.com Poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll. Princeton will come to Providence after opening the season with two games against Mercyhurst (Friday, Oct. 23 and Saturday, Oct. 24), winning both, 3-2 and 2-1, respectively. Princeton is led by Morgan Sly and Karlie Lund who lead the team in points with three. Sly has the team lead in goals (2) while Lund leads the Tigers in assists (2). Kimberly Newell has seen all of the time in net for the Tigers, registering a .948 save percentage and a 1.50 goals against average. Princeton's defense is perfect on the year while on the penalty kill, warding off its 10 penalties on the season. In both of Princeton's games, the Tigers have been outshot by their opponent, 30-24 and 28-16.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bears opened their 2015-16 season with a road series at Maine on Friday, Oct. 23 and Saturday, Oct. 24. Brown was defeated on Friday's contest, 4-0 in a game held at Norway Savings Bank Arena. Junior Monica Elvin recorded 29 saves in between the pipes while allowing three goals. The Bears were again defeated by Maine in the series finale on Saturday, falling 4-1. Freshman Bridget Carey scored her first collegiate goal in addition to Brown's first goal of the season and the first goal of the game. Sophomore Julianne Landry was in net for the second game, stopping 26 shots while allowing four goals.
BROWN VS. QUINNIPIAC LAST SEASON
The Bears went 0-2-0 against the Bobcats last season, dropping the first game, 3-0, on Friday, Jan. 3 at Quinnipiac and nearly upsetting the Bobcats, in a 1-0 loss, on their last game of the season on Feb. 21, 2015. Quinnipiac used a late third period goal to seal its victory in game two. Junior goaltender Monica Elvin also made 40 saves to keep Brown in the contest.
BROWN VS. PRINCETON LAST SEASON
Princeton topped Brown in both games last year, 5-1 on Saturday, Jan. 10 and 4-1 on Friday, Feb. 20. Junior Maddie Woo scored the lone goal in the first game while sophomore Sam Donovan scored the goal in the latter contest.
CAREY SCORES FIRST-CAREER GOAL
Freshman forward Bridget Carey scored her first collegiate goal on Sunday, Oct. 24 at Maine. The goal was the games first goal and Brown's first tally of the season.
NEXT UP
The Bears will remain home at Meehan Auditorium in a pair of ECAC games, welcoming No. 10/10 Dartmouth on Friday, Nov. 6 for a 7:00 p.m. game and then No. 7/8 Harvard on Saturday, Nov. 7 for a 4:00 p.m. contest.

The ECAC is one of the strongest women's hockey leagues in the country with four of its 12 teams ranked in national polls. Clarkson (4/4), Quinnipaic (5/5), Harvard (8/7) and Dartmouth (10/10) rank in the USCHO.com poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll, respectively. Three additional ECAC teams are also receiving votes in the both polls in Cornell, Colgate and Princeton.
