
Field Hockey Defeated by No. 19 Princeton, 4-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Despite scoring the first goal of the game, the Brown field hockey team fell 4-2 to No. 19 Princeton on Saturday afternoon at Goldberger Field. With the loss, Brown moves to 6-7 overall and 1-3 in the Ivy League while Princeton improves to 7-4 on the year and 4-0 in conference play.
"We played a solid 70 minute game today," said head coach Jill Reeve. "I was happy with our performance and it is a good game to build from."
Senior Hannah Rogers (Los Altos, Calif.) scored the game's first goal off of a rebound in the opening minutes of the contest (1:58) to give the Bears a 1-0 advantage. Rogers' tally was her third goal in the past two games.
Princeton tied the game at one at 12:53 when Elizabeth George scored with Jane Donio-Enscore tallying the assist. The Tigers took the lead at 14:38 when Donio-Enscore put in an unassisted goal.
Brown tied the game 2-2 when senior Emily Arciero (Avon, Conn.) scored after senior Alexis Miller (Caldwell, N.J.) fed her the ball from the top of the arc at 17:35.
The Tigers closed the half with a score to take a 3-2 lead going into the break. Maddie Copeland registered the goal (34:00) with Teresa Benvenuti gathering the helper.
Brown was unable to generate the game-tying goal in the second half and Princeton secured its lead with another goal by George at 60:53.
Freshman Katie Hammaker (Ephrata, Pa.) registered four saves in 70 minutes for the Bears while Anya Gersoff recorded two saves for Princeton.
Princeton held a 19-8 advantage in the game for shots and an 11-3 lead in corners.
The Bears will next play at Cornell for an Ivy League match-up on Saturday, Oct. 24 with the game-time set for 11:30 a.m.
