
Baughen Takes High Point Rider, Equestrian Places Second at Becker

PAXTON, Mass. – Junior captain Kabisa Baughen won reserve high point rider of the show to lead Brown University equestrian to a second-place finish at the Becker IHSA Show at the Becker College Equestrian Center on Saturday.
The Bears concluded the show with 34 points, tying with Roger Williams University while the University of Rhode Island won the show with 37 points. Brown leads IHSA Zone 1 Region 1 with 74 points through two shows on the season.
Baughen (Sarasota, Fla.), who won her class in open flat and came in second in her class in open fences, earned her individual honors after a question-off, which tested her knowledge of horse anatomy alongside two other riders.
Two other Bears – senior captain Alisa Berg (St. Louis, Mo.) and sophomore Elizabeth Rao (Andover, Mass.) – each garnered blue ribbons with Berg taking first in her intermediate flat class, and Rao gaining first in her beginner walk-trot-canter class.
In fences competition, Baughen led the Bears with her second-place finish while senior captain Elena Buchsbaum (Madison, N.J.) came in sixth in intermediate fences, and sophomore Lily Hertling (Paris, France) placed fifth in her class in novice fences.
For open flat, Baughen captured a first-place finish, sophomore Sara Nordstrom (Seattle, Wash.) took second in her class, and senior Tess Carter (Tucson, Ariz.) came in second in her class.
Berg paced Brown in intermediate flat with her first-place finish while Buchsbaum gained fifth in her class, and sophomore Annaliese Fries (Kirkland, Wash.) claimed second in her class.
Moving to novice flat, junior Clara Mae Maynard (Chilmark, Mass.) and sophomore Victoria Flagg (Great Falls, Va.) each gained a fourth-place finish. Sophomore Alejandra Zamora (New Canaan, Conn.) took third in her class.
Senior Tori Sasaki (London, England) grabbed fifth in her class in advanced walk-trot-canter while in beginner walk-trot-canter, Rao won her class and junior Roshan Moazed (Brookline, Mass.) came in fourth in her class.
In walk-trot, senior Noel Park (Baton Rouge, La.) and sophomore Keri Brooks (Yigo, Guam) each placed second in her respective class.
Next, Brown returns to action at the Roger Williams University IHSA Show at Glen Farm in Portsmouth, R.I., on Saturday, Oct. 24.
