Equestrian Ties for Second at RWU Show, Remains atop Regional Standings

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. – Brown University equestrian finished in a three-way tie for second place with 33 points at the Roger Williams University IHSA Show at Glen Farm on Saturday.
After the day's point show – where each school is limited to one rider per division – the Bears remain atop the 11-school IHSA Zone 1 Region 1 standings with 107 points through three shows on the year.
Earning blue ribbons on the day, junior captain Kabisa Baughen (Sarasota, Fla.) gained a first-place finish in open fences, and senior Noel Park (Baton Rouge, La.) placed first in walk-trot.
After gaining seven points with her finish, Park pointed out of walk-trot, crossing over the 36-point threshold, and will perform in the walk-trot-canter division in future shows. She has now qualified for walk-trot competition at the IHSA Zone 1 Region 1 regionals in the spring.
In other fences action, senior captain Elena Buchsbaum (Madison, N.J.) came in second in intermediate fences, and sophomore Lily Hertling (Paris, France) finished fifth in novice fences.
Sophomore Sara Nordstrom (Seattle, Wash.), senior captain Alisa Berg (St. Louis, Mo.), and sophomore Victoria Flagg (Great Falls, Va.) each garnered third-place finishes in the open flat, intermediate flat, and novice flat divisions respectively.
In walk-trot-canter, sophomore Anna Seto (Barrington, R.I.) pinned sixth.
In the team standings, UMass Dartmouth won the show with 34 points while Roger Williams and Johnson & Wales stood level with the Bears with 33 points.
Next, Brown will compete at the UMass Dartmouth IHSA Show at Roseland Acres in Tiverton, R.I., on Saturday, October 31.
