NEW YORK – The Brown women's swimming and diving team battled hard against Columbia on Saturday, ultimately falling to the Lions, 215-85, in dual meet competition at Uris Pool.
The Bears drop to 1-4 overall in Ivy League dual meet action this season.
"The score tells a small part of the story here. We are still working hard in the lead up to Ivies and today we put in that work with some hard nosed racing," said Head Coach Kate Kovenock. "I am very proud of the mental toughness, fight, and resiliency our women showed today. They were a team from start to finish."
In the day's opening event, junior diver Rachel Speakman (Hudson, Ohio) posted an impressive score of 269.25 in the 3-meter diving event.
Elly Vitek (Western Springs, Ill.) secured second place in the 1,000 Free with a mark of 10:28.20 before senior Kate Dillione (Newtown, Pa.) captured the title in the 200 Free (1:50.90).
In 200 Fly action, junior Gina Matsumoto (Farmington Hills, Mich.) excelled with a second place finish after posting a time of 2:02.81.
Reia Tong (Bethesda, Md.) continued her successful junior campaign with second and third place finishes in the 50 and 100 Free events, respectively. Tong also was part of the quartet of Bears, alongside of Dillione, Korbyn Simpson (Baltimore, Md.), and Sarah Cronin (Westfield, N.J.), that captured the win in the 400 Free Relay.
Caroline Vexler (Moreland Hills, Ohio) and Olivia Katcher (Hollywood, Fla.) each boasted solid performances in multiple events on Saturday.
The Bears return to action next Saturday for a senior day celebration against Cornell at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.
