Second Half Rally Leads Women's Soccer Over Delaware, 2-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Second half goals by Chloe Cross and Carly Gould rallied the Brown women's soccer team to a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over Delaware on Sunday at Stevenson Field. Brown improves to 2-0-0 while the Blue Hens drop to 2-3-0.

Senior goalkeeper Mallory Yant (Fenton, Mizz.) registered her second consecutive victory while turning away one Delaware bid on target. Kailyn Reikos made two saves for the Blue Hens to drop to 1-2-0 overall.

The Bears and Blue Hens battled evenly through the first 30 minutes on a hot, sunny day at Stevenson Field. The visiting Blue Hens struck first in the 32^nd minute as Nikki Adams' strike from 25-yards out found the crossbar and just over the goal line to put Delaware up 1-0.

Brown, anxious to mount a rally for the second consecutive game, netted the equalizer in the 55^th minute thanks to Cross (Seattle, Wash.). The senior captain was hauled down inside the box and converted the eventual penalty kick to notched her second strike in as many games.

The Bears took their first lead of the game 18 minutes later as Carly Gould's (Hampton Falls, N.H.) header off a pass from Sydney Calas (Bethesda, Md.) that trickled off the post and over the goal line to put Brown up 2-1. Gould's determination showed, as the sophomore was bloodied and had to exit the game for repairs before returning eight minutes later.

Delaware tried to mount a rally, nearly converting on a couple of good runs but the Brown backline, with the return of Annie Gillen (San Clemente, Calif.), kept the Blue Hens scoreless the rest of the way.

Brown will hit the road for the next two contests as they travel to Providence on Thursday before visiting Florida Atlantic on Sunday.
