
Volleyball Falls to Northwestern, 3-0

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Senior Maddie Lord (La Jolla, Calif.) posted a team-high 12 kills, but the Brown volleyball team fell to Northwestern in straight sets on Saturday in the first of two matches on the final day of the SDSU-USD Challenge in San Diego.
Brown moves to 0-3 on the young season and will wrap up the SDSU-USD Challenge tonight against Cal State Fullerton. Northwestern improves to 5-0 overall with the victory. The set scores in the match were 22-25, 24-26 and 16-25.
Rachele Killian (Laguna Beach, Calif.) paced the Bears with 17 assists, while Sarah Lucenti (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) also reached double figures with 11 helpers. Senior Kathryn Connor (Newport Beach, Calif.) led all players with 20 digs.
Brown established an early lead against Northwestern in the first set, breaking a 5-5 tie with steady play for an eventual 16-11 advantage, but the Wildcats clawed back to even the score at 16-16. After several sessions of back-and-forth action, the Wildcats broke a 22-22 tie with three straight points to take the first set, 25-22.
Once again, Brown jumped out to an early lead in the second set, before the Wildcats used an 8-1 run to move out in front, 13-12. Brown came back to tie the score on several occasions, but the Wildcats ended the set with a 5-2 stretch to claim the 26-24 win and move up 2-0. Northwestern then sealed the win in the next set, ending with a 9-3 run for the 3-0 victory.
Brown wraps up the SDSU-USD Challenge tonight when they play Cal State Fullerton at 7:30 p.m.
