PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Chloe Cross staked the Bears to an early second half lead but it wasn't enough as the Sacred Heart Pioneers rallied with two goals in the final 15 minutes to steal a 2-1 decision over the Brown women's soccer team on Wednesday.

The loss drops the Bears to 3-4-0 entering Ivy League play while the Pioneers improve to 4-5-1 and notch just their third victory in the all-time series.

Brown goalkeeper Mallory Yant (Fenton, Mo.) made one save to drop to 3-4-0 while Talia Schwartz notched her fourth victory of the season to improve to 4-5-1.

After an even first half deadlock that saw the teams even in shots, the Bears struck for an early second half tally as Cross (Seattle, Wash.) blasted a shot from just outside the box and inside the right post past Schwartz to put Brown up 1-0 in the 47^th minute.

Midfielder Carly Gould (Hampton Falls, N.H.) attempted a career-high eight shots, including a shot off the post in the 72^nd minute and two bids that grazed the top netting, narrowly missing. Gould's near miss proved to be ominous as Sacred Heart's Dana Cosmedy tucked in a cross off a free kick just two minutes later to knot the game at one on an assist from Jillian Picinich.

The Bears feverishly tried to regain the lead, but the Pioneers were up to the task on this night, striking for the eventual game-winning marker in the 86^th minute on Emily Dawidczyk's second goal of the season as her touch found its way just inside the post.

Late bids by Kirsten Belinsky (Los Altos, Calif.) and Gould in the waning moments went astray as time ran out on the Bears and salted away a Pioneers victory.

The Bears held a 17-10 advantage in shots and a 9-1 edge in corner kicks. The Pioneers' Chandler Antczak recorded the game's lone yellow card in the 64^th minute.

Brown returns to action on Sunday afternoon, kicking off Ivy League play at Dartmouth beginning at 1 p.m.
