PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown wrestling Head Coach Todd Beckerman is pleased to announce that Tyler Grayson has been promoted to the program's head assistant coach and Travis Pascoe has been hired as an assistant coach.
"I am really excited to announce the promotion of Tyler Grayson as our new head assistant wrestling coach," said Beckerman. "Tyler has been a huge asset to Brown University and our wrestling program for the past three years and was especially integral during my transition to Brown as head coach. He brings a wealth of knowledge to the sport; and he is dedicated to helping our student-athletes excel on the mat and in the classroom. Tyler has earned this promotion, and I want to thank him for all his hard work."
Grayson came to College Hill in late August of 2011 and helped Brown to it's first All-American in 16 years when Ophir Bernstein reached the podium at the 2014 NCAA Championships. Before Brown he served as an assistant coach at Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kan., a program that boasts eight National Championships and 45 All-Americans at the JUCO level.
A native of Gladstone, Mo., Grayson put together an accomplished career at Central Michigan, where he was an NCAA Qualifier (Round of 12) in 2010 with the Chippewas and a 2010 Mid-American Conference Champion. His senior year he finished with a 20-7 overall mark and 13-2 dual meet record on his way to a conference championship at 165 pounds. Grayson is also a two-time Midlands placer winner, three-time University Nationals placer winner, and an All-American and two-time state champion at the high school level.
"First I want to thank Todd Beckerman for giving me this great opportunity," said Grayson. "It's an honor to continue to be a part of Brown wrestling and I am excited for the future of the program. In Todd's first year, we had our first All-American in 16 years and I believe with our coaching staff we can continue to produce All-Americans in the future. Brown wrestling produces successful student-athletes and we have great alumni support. I'm honored to be a part of this special program."
Pascoe, an All-American and four-time NCAA Championship qualifier at Nebraska, arrives at Brown after two stints as an assistant coach at Oregon State. He spent the 2011-12 season as an assistant coach for Arizona State, and was a volunteer assistant at OSU from 2006-11.
"I am excited to announce the hiring of Travis Pascoe," said Beckerman. "We were teammates together at Nebraska, and I'm certain he will have an immediate impact and help elevate our program. He has been coaching on the west coast since he graduated from college and has many recruiting connections throughout that part of the country, which will enhance our ability to recruit nationwide. I am very excited to have Travis and his family join our program."
Before Oregon State, Pascoe spent the 2005-06 season as an assistant coach at Fresno State. He has also coached as an instructor at camps and clinics.
While wrestling for Nebraska, Pascoe placed sixth in the 2005 NCAA Championships at 184 pounds. He also earned a Cliff Keen Las Vegas Collegiate title en route to 101 wins as a Cornhusker. When he concluded his career, he ranked 13th on the school's all-time wins list.
