PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Coming off of back-to-back come from behind victories, the Brown women's soccer team looks to remain unbeaten as they clash with Providence on Thursday at Ray Treacy Track. The Bears will then fly south for a non-conference tilt against Florida Atlantic on Sunday afternoon.
LAST TIME OUT
Chloe Cross' equalizing penalty kick and Carly Gould's header in the 73rd helped cap a furious second half rally in Brown's 2-1 victory over Delaware last Sunday. (Highlights)
STREAKBUSTERS
In their 2-1 season-opening win at St. John's, the Bears snapped the Red Storm's 15-game home unbeaten streak dating back to 2012.
CROSS, WALDMAN EARN WEEKLY IVY LEAGUE HONORS
Chloe Cross (Seattle, Wash.) earned Ivy League Co-Player of the Week honors and freshman Mikela Waldman (San Francisco, Calif.) was tabbed as Ivy League Rookie of the Week in an announcement made on Monday, Sept. 8. Cross boasted the tying goal in both contests last weekend while Waldman notched her first career goal, a game-winner in the 88th minute at St. John's last Friday.
YANT EARNS FIRST TWO WINS
Senior goalkeeper Mallory Yant (Fenton, Mo.) recorded her first two collegiate wins, turning away seven shots over two games last weekend.
THE SERIES HISTORY – PROVIDENCE
Thursday will mark the 26th meeting between the cross-city rivals with Brown holding a 20-5-0 edge. The Friars however got the best of the Bears in their last meeting, a 3-2 Providence victory on Sept. 6, 2012.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS
Preseason All-Big East selection Catherine Zimmerman paces the Friars' attack with seven points on three goals and an assist over six games. Scoring has been at a premium for Providence thus far in 2014, as they have only found the back of the net four times in those six contests. Sophomore goalkeeper Kristyn Shea enters Thursday with a goals-against average of 1.07.
THE SERIES HISTORY – FLORIDA ATLANTIC
First meeting between the two schools.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
Claire Emslie leads the Owls with three goals, including game-winning strikes against USF and Cal Poly earlier this season. In his second season at the helm of Florida Atlantic, head coach Patrick Baker enters this weekend's play with an 8-12-5 overall record. The Owls conclude their five-game road trip on Friday at Jacksonville before returning home to battle Brown on Sunday.
UP NEXT
The Bears will return home on Thursday, Sept. 18 to take on UMass-Amherst before traveling to another regional foe, UConn on Sunday, Sept. 21.
