PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Four Bears scored in double figures and freshman Janie White hauled in a career high 18 rebounds as the Brown women's basketball team rallied past Fairleigh Dickinson in overtime, 79-74, on Sunday at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
Brown (3-7) records its first overtime victory since Feb. 10, 2012 over Columbia, dropping the Knights to a 3-6 record and improving to 3-0 in the all-time series.
Rebecca Musgrove (Plainview, N.Y.) posted her first career double-double with 10 points and a career best 10 rebounds, marking the second Brown double-double this season.
Jordin Alexander (Fishers, Ind.) led the Bears with 20 points on 9-of-18 shooting, reaching double figures for the ninth time this season, while Sophie Bikofsky (13 points) and Natalie Ball (12 points) also reached double figures.
Neither squad could sustain much of a lead in the opening stanza, as the margin stayed within four points for the entirety as FDU took a four-point lead into the locker room. 11 first-half points from the Knights' Kelsey Cruz paced the visitors in shooting 45.5-percent from the field.
Alexander connected on her first four attempts from the field to give Brown a 10-9 advantage four minutes into the contest.
The teams came out firing in the second half, with the Bears rallying grab their first lead since the 6:28 mark of the first on Bikofsky's first trey of the afternoon to put Brown up 38-37.
With the game knotted at 47, an 8-0 run, capped by Bikofsky's bucket from long distance gave Brown its largest lead of the game with 7:50 to play.
The Knights drew within one possession on Cruz's three with 3:39 to play and eventually tied the game on Amanda Andrades' free throws with 50 seconds left. White's bucket put Brown back up by two, followed by a free throw from the freshman to give the Bears a 66-63 lead on the final possession.
Andrades struck again with 9.3 seconds on the clock with a long-distance three to tie the game at 66 before Alexander's runner as time expired was off the mark to send the game into overtime.
After the Knights scored the first four points of the extra frame, the Bears responded with a 13-4 to seal the game. Brown got crucial contributions down the stretch from Musgrove, Ellise Sharpe (Tipp City, Ohio), and Bikofsky, who salted the game away at the line in the final moments.
Brown returns to action next Monday, Dec. 29, for day one action of the Cyclone Challenge in Ames, Iowa against UC-Riverside.
