PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Ben Maurey's (Downingtown, Pa) tally in the 74^th minute capped a fitting conclusion to the Brown men's soccer team's 1-0 victory over Yale at Stevenson Field on Senior Day. The Bears improve their record to 5-5-6 and 2-2-2 in Ivy play, while the Bulldogs drop to 1-12-3, 0-5-1 in league play.

Fellow senior Mitch Kupstas (Suwanee, Ga.) pitched his seventh shutout of the season, stopping four shots to stonewall the Yale attack in the second half.

Prior to the game, Maurey, Kupstas, Tommy Arns (Barrington, Ill.), Alex Markes (Valencia, Calif.), and Daniel Taylor (Greenwich, Conn.) were honored for their contributions to the program over the previous four seasons.

A tightly contested first half on a cold, raw evening made all scoring chances come at a premium. The Bears' best bid came near the end of the half on Nate Pomeroy's (Groton, Mass.) header that just sailed over the top of the crossbar.

An early Yale flurry in the beginning of the second stanza would appear to yield the game's first goal, but Kupstas and the Brown defense stopped two point blank bids to keep the game scoreless.

With Brown pressing for the go-ahead goal, Maurey obliged with assists from Will Cross (Nashville, Tenn.) and Jack Gorab (Newport Beach, Calif.). Gorab sent a ball down the left sideline for Cross, who dribbled into the box and pressured Yale netminder Blake Brown into touching the ball right to Maurey, who sailed a ticketed shot over the keeper's outstretched hand to put Brown up 1-0.

Kupstas and the Brown defense held serve the rest of the way as the Bears evened their record in advance of their final contest at Dartmouth next weekend.
