PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Former Brown swimmer Sam Speroni '11 has been named Assistant Women's Swimming and Diving Coach in an announcement made by Head Coach Kate Kovenock on Thursday. Former Kenyon College standout, Sydnee Lindblom, will also join the staff as a volunteer assistant.
"Sam's understanding of the tremendous potential of Brown Swimming and Diving is rooted in his own experience here as a student-athlete," said Kovenock. "What I love about this hire is that Sam already knows what it takes to be successful here and he has the passion and vision required to see this to fruition. With Sam and with my volunteer coach, Syd Lindblom, I now have a dynamic, driven staff in place. "
A native of Sandwich, Massachusetts, Speroni was a two-time captain of the Brown men's swimming and diving team as a junior and senior, earning the Men's Swimming and Diving Service & Leadership Award in those two seasons. He is a Brown all-time top-25 finisher in the 1,000 Freestyle, 1,650 Freestyle, and 400 IM events and also served as President of the Brown Student-Athlete Advisory Council from 2009-11.
"I'm thrilled to be returning to Brown as the new assistant coach for the Women's Swimming and Diving program," said Speroni. "I want to thank Head Coach Kate Kovenock and the Brown Athletics administration for giving me the opportunity to come back to work at the university I've come to call home."
Lindblom earned All-American status in the 500 and 1,000 Freestyle, as well as the 400 IM during her illustrious career at perennial national title contender, Kenyon College. She was also a 2014 CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-American At-Large selection after earning a 3.75 grade point average and boasting three top-16 finishes at last year's NCAA Championships.
