
Men's Soccer Entertains Harvard on Saturday (3:30 p.m.)

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's soccer team will play host to Harvard on Saturday, October 18 in a key Ivy League matchup at Stevenson Field at 3:30 p.m. Links to live video and live stats will be available at brownbears.com.

LAST TIME OUT
After splitting a pair of Ivy League games, the Bears played Boston College to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday in non-conference action. Freshman Louis Zingas scored his first career goal at 80:48 to break a scoreless tie, but the Eagles answered back 41 seconds later with the equalizer. Juniors Jack Gorab and Tim Whalen picked up assists, while Mitch Kupstas made three saves in net.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
After opening the season with three losses, Harvard has won eight straight games, including a pair of home shutouts over league foes Yale, 1-0, and Cornell, 1-0. Harvard has racked up 21 goals during its eight-game unbeaten streak. Hiroki Kobayashi leads the team with eight points, while a total of four players are tied with three goals apiece. Evan Mendez has started every game in net and ranks fourth in the league with a 1.21 goals against average.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
Senior keeper Mitch Kupstas ranks second in the Ivy League in goals against average (1.01), save percentage (.774) and saves (41). He also has five shutouts this season, including a string of four straight before the team's one-goal loss at Princeton last weekend.
LAST TIME AGAINST HARVARD
Brown fell at Harvard, 2-1, in last year's meeting in Cambridge. Harvard raced out to a quick two-goal lead and held on the rest of the way, despite a goal by Jack Gorab in the first half.
MARKES NAMED SENIOR CLASS CANDIDATE
Alex Markes has been named a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award, which is presented each year to the outstanding senior NCAA Division I Student-Athlete of the Year across ten different sports. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.
