BABSON PARK, Mass. – Freshman Louis Zingas (Warren, Mich.) notched his first career goal as the Brown men's soccer team played Boston College to a 1-1 tie in Tuesday's afternoon's non-conference matchup on the campus of Babson College.
Brown moves to 3-4-4 on the season while the Eagles now stand at 4-4-3 overall.
After a scoreless opening half, Zingas scored the first tally of his collegiate career at 80:48 to break a scoreless tie, but the Eagles answered back 41 seconds later with the equalizer.
Boston College outshot the Bears by a slim margin, 13-10, while senior keeper Mitch Kupstas (Suwanee, Ga.) made three saves in net. Alex Kapp posted three stops on the other end.
BC had a 4-2 edge in shots during the opening 45 minutes, while each side registered a pair of corner kicks, but both defenses limited the amount of quality chances to keep it scoreless at halftime.
Zingas put Brown on the scoreboard in the 81st minute, when he took a pass fellow rookie Quinn English (Milwaukee, Wis.) and blasted a shot from about 10 yards out to lift the Bears in front, 1-0.
Brown's lead did not last long, however, as BC responded just 41 seconds later when Cole DeNormandie tipped home a cross from the right side to even the score and send the game into extra time.
After Kupstas turned away a shot early in the first overtime, Kapp returned the favor late in the stanza when he stopped a shot by senior Alex Markes (Valencia, Calif.) to force a second OT frame. Brown and BC registered two shots apiece in the final overtime, but neither team found the back of the net, as the game ended in a draw.
Brown returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 18 against Harvard at 3:30 p.m. For tickets, purchase online, call the Brown Athletics Ticket Office at (401) 863-2773, or walk up to the Box Office located in the Pizzitola Sports Center, open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
