PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After a deadlocked opening half, the Brown field hockey team (7-3) used three second half goals to claim a 4-2 victory over Lehigh (4-10) on Sunday afternoon at Goldberger Family Field. A balanced attack saw four different players get on the board for Brown on Sunday.

"I was happy with our second half effort as things seemed to come together as the game evolved," said Head Coach Jill Reeve. "Lehigh is in good form and I'm glad we were able to capitalize on our opportunities today."

Shannon McSweeney (Boxborough, Mass.) made four saves, including three in the first half, to improve to 7-3 this season. Julia Ward surrendered three goals for the Mountain Hawks before giving way to Katie Morris, who allowed Brown's final goal with 40 seconds to play.

After Amanda Granger gave Lehigh an early 1-0 lead, the Bears responded on freshman Emma Quigley's (Hopewell, N.J.) tip in off Katherine Kallergis' (Lake Forest, Ill.) shot at 22:48. The teams battled the rest of the half scoreless before a Brown offensive explosion in the second half.

Looking to grab their first lead of the afternoon, the Bears connected as Emily Arciero (Avon, Conn.) fed Alex Miller (Caldwell, N.J.) for the junior's fifth tally of the season to put Brown up 2-1. Just 10 minutes later, tri-captain Clayton Christus (Bernardsville, N.J.) extended the lead to 3-1 as she blasted home a shot off a penalty corner.

Lehigh responded right away after being rewarded a penalty stroke a minute later, which Jackie Renda converted into the top corner past McSweeney to make it a one-goal game again.

The Mountain Hawks mounted a charge in the final minutes, but Brown stood tall and added an insurance marker with 40 seconds left as Hannah Rogers (Los Altos, Calif.) put a home a feed from Meghan O'Donnell (Winchester, Mass.) for her third goal of the season to close out the scoring.

The Bears outshot Lehigh by a 13-7 margin, with penalty corners even at two apiece.

Brown is right back in action tomorrow as they battle cross-city rival, Providence, at 1 p.m.
