HANOVER, NH – Dartmouth erased an early 1-0 deficit with a goal in each of the next two periods to come back and earn a 2-1 victory over the Brown men's hockey team (1-3-0, 0-2-0) on Saturday evening at Thompson Arena. The game was the second between the two teams in a span of a week, as Dartmouth (3-0-1, 2-0-0) earned a 4-0 win over the Bears in a non-league contest last Saturday in Providence.
The two teams played a rather sluggish first period with Dartmouth holding a 7-3 advantage in shots. However, it was the Bears who would score the game's first goal. Skating short-handed after a cross-checking penalty on junior Jimmy Siers (Mt. Prospect, IL), sophomore Massimo Lamacchia (Maple, Ontario) took a feed from junior Garnet Hathaway (Kennebunkport, ME) and fired it past Cab Morris for his first goal of the year exactly eight minutes into the game.
The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Bears until late in the second period when Eric Neiley beat junior Marco De Filippo (Auronzo Di Cadore, Italy) to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the final period.
Following Robinson's goal with 5:45 left to play, the Bears continued to press for the equalizer, pulling Di Filippo in favor of the extra attacker with 1:05 left. However, Dartmouth was able to hold on for the win
For the game, Dartmouth outshot Brown, 32-25. De Filippo finished with 30 saves, while Morris made 24 saves for the Big Green. Brown's penalty kill finished 5-5 to go perfect (9-9) on the weekend. The Bears' power play was 0-4.
Brown returns to action next weekend when it hosts St. Lawrence and Clarkson in an ECAC weekend series. Friday night's game against the Saints begins a stretch of five straight home contests for the Bears who do not play a road game until December 1st.
