PRINCETON, NJ – The Brown women's soccer team (6-4-0, 0-3-0) battled Ivy League leading Princeton (7-3-1, 3-0-0) to a scoreless draw through 76 minutes, but the Tigers netted two quick goals to come away with a 2-0 win over the Bears on Saturday in New Jersey.
Both Princeton goals were the first of the season for the respective goal scorers, as Rachel Sheehy scored what would prove to the game-winner at 76:09 and Lynessa McGee provided some insurance at the 81:06 mark.
After Alison Nabatoff served the ball into the box, Caitlin Blosser, junior goalie MC Barrett (Ithaca, NY) and a Bears' defender all went up for the ball. However, the ball deflected of Blosser's head to Sheehy, who knocked it past Barrett.
Less than five minutes later, Jen Hoy fond McGee for a shot from about 25 yards out that arced its way inside the left post and past Barrett.
Junior Amber Bledsoe (Cincinnati, OH) stopped all five shots she faced in the opening 45 minutes, before giving way to Barrett, who made two saves in the second half.
Sophomore Chloe Cross (Seattle, WA) led the Bears' offense with five of the team's 11 shots, while junior Mika Siegelman (Piedmont, CA) tallied three shots.
The Bears return to action for a Tuesday night home game against Dartmouth at 7:00 p.m. The contest is a non-league game, one of three non-league games the Bears will play against teams from the Ancient Eight this year.
