Springmeyer Named Ivy League Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, RI – Brown field hockey junior Leslie Springmeyer (New Vernon, NJ) has been named Ivy League Player of the Week for her role in helping lead the Bears to a 1-1 weekend, including a 6-2 victory over Bryant.
Springmeyer scored two goals against both Columbia and Bryant,
as Brown played two games in less than 24 hours. Against the Lions
in the Ivy League opener for both squads, Springmeyer, who did not
start, entered the game at 5:47 and just 25 seconds later she
scored her first goal of the year to give Brown a 1-0 lead. After
Columbia had taken a 3-2 lead at the 44:04 mark, Springmeyer
answered for Brown just 1:19 later to tie the score at 3-3.
Less than 24 hours after the Columbia game, Springmeyer helped
lead Brown to its first win of the season with a pair of goals
against Bryant. After the Bulldogs had taken a 1-0 lead 1:40 into
the game, Springmeyer answered just 2:19 later to tie the game at
1-1. After Bryant had tied the score at 2-2, Brown would take a 3-2
lead. Just 27 seconds after Brown's third goal, Springmeyer
knocked another one in to give the Bears a 4-2 lead with 25 minutes
remaining.
Her offensive outburst helped her climb the in the Brown record
books, finishing the weekend ranked sixth all-time at Brown with 22
career goals (one shy of fifth) and ranking seventh all-time with
58 career points (one shy of sixth). Springmeyer was also the last
Bear to earn Ivy League Player of the Week honors, having done so
on November 11, 2008.
Brown returns to action this Saturday when it travels to
Dartmouth to face the Big Green in a 12:00 noon contest.
