
Columbia Topples Brown, 65-56, In Season's Final Game

Providence, Rhode Island – Senior Niko Scott scored a game
high 22 points to lead Columbia to a Ivy League win over Brown in
the final game of the season for both teams. Brown finishes with an
11-20 overall record, 5-9 in the Ivy League, while Columbia
finishes at 11-17, 5-9 in Ivy play.
Scott scored 12 of his 22 points in the first half and connected on
7 of 1 field goals overall, including 6 of 8 from behind the
three-point arc.
Junior Garrett Leffelman led the Bears with a career high 20 points
on 7 of 15 shooting from the field and 4 of 9 shooting from behind
the three-point arc.
Brown senior Matt Mullery scored 19 points to lead the Bears,
connecting on 6 of 14 field goals and 6 of 7 free throws, while
grabbing seven rebounds. Seniors Steve Gruber and Mullery were
honored on Senior Night in pre-game ceremonies.
Mullery completed his four-year career as Brown's 16th
all-time leading scorer with 1,134 career points, moving past Russ
Tyler, who scored 1,133 career points from 1968-1971.
Both teams looked lethargic in the first half with the Lions
leading by as many as six points, 26-20, following a trey by Scott
with 56 seconds left in the half. A trey by Brown junior Adrian Williams cut Columbia's halftime lead to 26-23.
Brown grabbed its first lead of the half, 38-37, on a conventional
three-point play by Andrew McCarthy with 12:30 left to play.
Columbia took the lead for good, 50-48, following a driving lay-up
by Max Craig with 5:41 left in the game. Mullery's trey with
4:52 remaining cut the Lions' lead to one point, 52-51, but
that was as close as Brown would get as Columbia put the game away
over the next four minutes.
