
Alaska Anchorage Defeats Brown 188.250-184.875

Anchorage, AK- Freshman Julia Meyer led the Brown University
gymnastics team with first place finishes on the bars and beam, but
it wasn't enough to defeat Alaska Anchorage at the Wells
Fargo Sports Complex on Friday night. The Bears combined for a
184.875 while the Seawolves tallied a 188.250.
The Seawolves locked up first through fourth place finishes on the
vault, highlighted by Shakea Sanders' 9.725 for first place.
Freshman Emily Lutfey earned fifth place for the Bears with a
9.500, as freshman Nicole Abdo followed in eighth with a 9.350 and
junior Chelsey Binkley in ninth with a 9.325. Alaska combined for a
48.000 on the vault while the Bears earned a 45.625.
Meyer earned the uneven parallel bars title with a 9.700, while
Alaska's Courtney Williams and Shakea Sanders earned second
and third with a 9.600 and a 9.450, respectively. The Bears claimed
fourth through eighth, starting with Izzy Kirkham-Lewitt's
9.425 for fourth place. Freshman Lauren Hall (9.4) earned fifth,
Lutfey finished in sixth (9.325), Binkley in seventh (9.3) and in
eighth was sophomore Carli Wiesenfeld with a 9.2. The Bears
defeated Alaska on the bars with a score of 47.150, while the
Seawolves combined for a score of 45.700.
Meyer's 9.650 on the balance beam earned the title, while
Alaska's Lauren Agostine (9.5) followed in second and Meagan
Byrne (9.350) secured third. Binkely's 9.325 was good for
fourth place, and Lauren Hall's 9.050 earned eighth place.
Alaska edged the Bears on the beam with a 46.300, while Brown
posted a 45.775.
Alaska earned first through fourth on the floor, but Brown's
Lutfey and Abdo tied for fifth place with a 9.475. Wiesenfeld
followed in seventh place with a 9.450 and Binkley recorded a 9.025
for 10th place. Alaska combined for a 48.250 on the floor exercise
while the Bears tallied a 46.325.
Alaska's Shakea Sanders earned the all-around title with a
38.150 and Courtney Williams 37.775 was good for second. Binkley
(36.975) finished in third, followed by Lutfey (36.850) in fourth
and Hall (36.075) in fifth.
The Bears will take on the Seawolves again on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
