
Second Half Surge Gives Harvard 81-67 Win Over Brown

Providence, Rhode Island – Harvard freshman Kyle Casey
scored a game high 27 points on 8 of 9 shooting from the field to
lead the Crimson to an 81-67 Ivy league win over Brown at the
Pizzitola Sports Center. The loss drops Brown to 8-17 overall, 2-6
in the Ivy League, while Harvard extends its record to 17-5, 6-2 in
Ivy play.
Brown junior Peter Sullivan led the Bears with 20 points and six
rebounds, while junior Garrett Leffelman tossed in a career high 16
points on sizzling 6 of 9 shooting from the field. Freshman Matt Sullivan chipped in with nine points for the Bears.
Harvard, who converted 14 of 16 shots from the free throw line,
had two other double figure scorers. Christian Webster tossed in 16
points, while Doug Miller added 12 points for the Crimson.
The game was mostly decided on the backboards, with the Crimson
holding a 36-19 rebounding advantage over the Bears.
Harvard grabbed a 38-35 lead in fast-paced first half that saw 12
lead changes. Peter Sullivan scored on a driving lay-up with 2:27
left in the half to give the Bears a 35-33 advantage. The Crimson
scored the last five points of the half on a trey by Weber and a
jump shot by Casey to take a three point lead at intermission.
The Bears came out of the halftime locker room by scoring the
first nine points of the second half to grab a six point lead,
44-38, on a trey by Leffelman with 17:40 on the clock.
Harvard answered with a 19-5 run of its own to pull ahead, 57-49,
on a reverse lay-up by Jeremy Lin with 11:20 left in the game.
The Bears pulled to within three points of the Crimson, 61-58,
with 8:27 left in the game following a three-point play by
Sullivan. Harvard quickly answered and put the game away with a
13-2 run to gain a 74-60 lead with 4:29 left on the clock.
The Bears hit the road next weekend, traveling to Penn and
Princeton on Friday and Saturday, February 19 & 20, to initiate
a four game road trip.
