Providence, RI - Brown Athletics, in conjunction with the Citadel Broadcasting's Providence Books are Wings Program, the Brown Football Association and WSKO AM790, have partnered with the Providence Public Schools to promote "Literacy Day" at Brown's November 6th football game against Yale. Kickoff is 12:30 pm at Brown Stadium.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for our football team to reach out to the Providence Community in a meaningful way," said Brown head football coach Phil Estes. "Reading is such an important element of our children's lives. Our players have volunteered in the Providence Public Schools with a goal to create an environment where reading is fun."
In a special on-field halftime ceremony, Brown University President Ruth Simmons, Providence Public Schools Superintendent Tom Brady, and members of the Providence Public Schools Board will recognize the school children for their achievements in the classroom.
Brown Football is encouraging everyone attending the game to donate a book, with drops located at all entrances to the Stadium. Donated books will be provided to the Providence School Libraries, with Citadel Broadcasting already committing to furnish 700 to that effort.
For more information on Literacy Day or how you can donate to this cause, please contact Patrick Walker, Brown Athletics Manager of Marketing and Promotions, at 401-863-7340.
