New Rochelle, NY- Senior Gordon Hood (Carlsbad, CA) scored four goals and sophomore Svetozar Stefanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) added three to help lead the Brown men's water polo team to an 11-6 victory over Iona College on Saturday evening at Hynes Pool.
"It was great to get this win on the road," said Head Coach Felix Mercado. "Iona is a tough team at home and we can in with the right mindset defensively and that helped us to this win."
The game was even at 2-2 after the first eight minutes of the game, but the Bears were able to stop the Gaels in the second quarter to take a 4-2 lead heading into halftime. Bruno went on to score four goals in the third holding Iona to just three in the third quarter, and then outscored the Gaels 3-1 in the fourth to claim the 11-6 win.
Brown had a great defensive effort tonight and limited Iona's scoring with the help of rookie goalkeeper's Walker Shockley's (Diamond Bar, CA) career-high 17 saves. James McNamara (Los Angeles, CA) also had an overall effective game adding two goals, two assists and two steals. Chris Culin (Cincinnati, OH) and Dean Serure (Coral Gables, FL) rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece.
