The Bears dropped a 3-2 game to a tough St. Lawrence squad on
Friday night, as the Saints used a strong second period and solid
goaltending to pick up the win, despite 44 from rookie goalie Katie Jamieson. Fellow freshman Alena Polenska and senior Erin Connors
each scored for the Bears. With the loss, Brown falls to 2-13-4 on
the season, and 0-10-3 in league play, while St. Lawrence improves
to 11-7-6 overall, and 7-3-2 against ECAC foes.
The first period began with a bang for Bruno, as Polenska took an
early shot from near the blue line, and watched it get by St.
Lawrence goalie Maxie Weisz for a 1-0 lead. The Saints answered
later in the frame though, as they were able to poke the puck into
net after a pile up in front of the cage. With the tally, the teams
went into the first intermission tied at 1-1.
St. Lawrence came out firing in the second, however, scoring a pair
of goals in the first five minutes, and taking a solid 3-1 lead.
Defense and goalkeeping took over from there though, with neither
team able to light the lamp until Brown pulled to within one with
just over three minutes remaining. Connors had the initial shot
blocked, but got her own rebound and fired it into net to make the
score 3-2, where it would stay through the end of the period.
The solid play in net continued through the third frame, where the
two goalies combined to stop all 20 shots that were leveled at
them, holding the score at 3-2. Though the Bears had a last ditch
effort with 35 seconds to play, as a penalty and going to the open
net gave them a 6-on-4 opportunity, the Saints were able to make
just enough plays to hold off the rally.
The Bears will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, when they host
#3 Clarkson at 4:00 p.m.
