Brown men's soccer senior Nick Elenz-Martin (Encinitas,
CA) scored in the 82nd minute to tie the score at 1-1 and send the
game into overtime against Santa Clara (2-4-1). Both teams went
scoreless during the 10-minute overtime periods, ending the game in
a tie.
The Bears put forth a great offensive effort, out-shooting the
Broncos 6-5 in the first 45 minutes. Unfortunately, Santa Clara
found the back of the net first, when Eric Masch earned his third
goal of the season after heading in a rebound after a Paul Grandstrand (Orono, MN) save at the 23:25 mark.
With just under eight minutes remaining in regulation, Elenz-Martin
came up with a huge goal for Bruno at the 82:17 mark when he
blasted a shot past SCU goalie Larry Jackson to the bottom right
corner of the net from 25 yards out.
The Bears outscored the Broncos 15-8 for the game, including two
shots to the Broncos 1 in the second overtime period, and also led
5-1 in corner kicks. Grandstrand picked up three saves in net to
move his record to (4-0-2) on the year. Jackson earned six saves
for the Broncos.
Brown will now take on San Francisco on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. (PT).
