Brown Volleyball Knocks off Holy Cross 3-1

Providence, R.I. – The Brown volleyball team knocked off Holy Cross for the second time in as many days, taking a 3-1 victory behind junior Brianna Williamson's game-high 17 kills and 17 digs. With the win, the Bears improve to 3-6 on the season, finishing the Brown Invitational with a 2-1 record in the tournament.

Bruno started the first set off with a bang, jumping out to a 14-8 lead against the Crusaders. Though Holy Cross made a run mid-match, Brown held on to take a 25-22 opening win. The Crusaders bounced back well in the second, with a 25-20 victory to tie the match, but Brown played a dominant third set to take a 2-1 lead.

In the third, the Bears hit an even .300 while holding Holy Cross to a -.029 hitting percentage, enabling Bruno to take an impressive 25-13 win. After a back-and-forth start to the fourth, the Bears used a 4-0 run to gain some breathing room, and held on for a 25-21 win to clinch the match.

Sophomore Spencer McAndrews continued to play well at the setter position, notching a match-high 51 assists, and adding six digs and four total blocks on the defensive end. Junior Megan Toman also turned in a solid performance, recording 15 kills and eight digs, while rookie libero Carly Cotton had a match-high 18 digs.

The Bears will be back in action next Saturday, when they travel to the Bryant Invitational. Brown will play Howard at 10:00 a.m. and Bryant at 4:00 p.m.
