
Terriers Breeze by Bears, 87-58

Providence, RI- Led by sophomore guard Alex Young's 33
points, the Boston University women's basketball team (3-3)
cruised to an 87-58 victory over Brown University (2-5) on
Wednesday evening at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Senior guard
Christina Johnson lit up for a team-high 19 points, as senior
forward Natalie Bonds chipped in with 10.
The Boston University Terriers jumped out to a 9-0 lead after just
three minutes of play, and went on to extend its advantage to 17-2
at the 14:25 mark. The Terriers were shooting 45 percent from the
field (9-20) and sank five of 11 three point attempts to continue
its scoring spree in the first half taking a 29-8 lead midway
through the stanza.
Sheila Dixon scored Brown's first point five minutes after
the tip-off, as Daniels added five points and Natalie Bonds,
Lindsay Nickel and Sarah Delk chipped in with three to help Brown
cut its deficit to 38-17 with 2:35 remaining in the half. The
Terriers were led by Alex Young's 23 points as the team
headed into halftime with a 45-20 advantage over the Bears.
Bruno shot just 29 percent from the field and was out-rebounded
19-11. Daniels had a team-high five points, as four Bears added
three points.
The Terriers came out just as strong in the second half, and
extended the score to 61-31 at the 13:04 mark. Free throws by Bonds
and layups by Lee and Bonds brought the score to 70-37, but BU
continued to score at will and continued to increase its lead
throughout the remaining minutes. Johnson had a huge second half
for Bruno, scoring 16 of the team's 19 points in the final
nine minutes of play. She was six-of-seven from the floor and was
seven-of-eight from the charity stripe as the Bears fell 87-58.
The Bears finished the game shooting 36 percent from the floor and
were paced by Johnson's 19 points. Bonds followed with 10
points and a team-high five rebounds and Passafuime chipped in with
seven. Boston University featured four players in double-digit
scoring, as Alex Young drained 33 points and pulled down eight
rebounds. Aly Hinton added 16 points while Caitlynn Moran put in
11. BU shot 47 percent from the field and went 22 of 26 from the
free throw line.
The Bears will now host its annual Brown BEAR Basketball Classic
this weekend, as it will take on the University of Massachusetts at
1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5 and will then match up with either
Morgan State or Quinnipiac the following afternoon.
