
Springmeyer and Hyland Named All-Ivy

PROVIDENCE, RI - Junior Katie Hyland (Riegelsville, PA) and
sophomore Leslie
Springmeyer (New Vernon, NJ) of the Brown field hockey team have
earned 2009
All-Ivy honors in a vote by the League's eight head coaches. Both
were named
Second Team All-Ivy and both have started every game of their
careers with
Hyland playing in 51 in three seasons and Springmeyer playing in 34
in two
seasons.
Springmeyer, who was an Honorable Mention All-Ivy honoree last
season, led
the Bears in scoring for the second straight year. This season, she
led the
Bears with 29 points (10g, 9a), while also leading the team in both
goals
and assists. Springmeyer ranked sixth in the Ivy League in points,
seventh
in points per game, sixth in goals, eighth in goals per game, fifth
in
assists, and sixth in assists per game. At Brown, her 10 goals this
season
is 9th all-time for goals in a season, while her nine assists rank
sixth
all-time and her 29 points is fourth all-time. Springmeyer still
has two
seasons to play, but already ranks among Brown's all-time leading
career
scorers. She will enter her junior year ranked ninth with 18 career
goals,
eighth with 14 career assists, and ninth with 50 career points.
Hyland is making her first appearance on an All-Ivy team this
season,
finishing tied for second on the team with a career-high 16 points
(6g, 4a),
including one game-winning goal. A valuable member of the midfield,
Hyland
has finished among the Bears' top five scorers in each of her three
seasons,
notching 10 points ( 3g, 4a) in 2008 and four points (2g) in 2007.
She also
has one career defensive save, which she posted in 2008, and is 1-1
on
penalty strokes, scoring on her only attempt taken this season.
