
Bears Welcome Back Former All-Americans During Home Opening Weekend; Host Colgate and #3 Cornell

PROVIDENCE, RI - After opening the season with three straight
road games, the men's hockey team returns home this weekend to host
Colgate and #3 Cornell in the Bears' home opening weekend. Brown
will look to post not only its first win of the 2009-10 season, but
also the first win for head coach Brendan Whittet '94, who returned
to Brown this summer for his first season behind the bench.
Tickets still remain for both games, though Saturday's contest
against Cornell has limited quantities available. Fans can purchase
tickets online at www.brownbearstickets.com or
by calling the Brown ticket office at 401-863-2773 between 11:00
a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Friday.
In addition to the games, Brown will be honoring its former hockey
All-Americans on Saturday at both a pre-game ceremony and then
again during the first intermission of the Cornell game. John Davis
'68 will also be on hand for a ceremonial puck drop on Saturday
night, as the new scoreboards, named for Davis' parents, are
officially unveiled.
The Marketing department also has several plans for the weekend,
beginning with Friday night when the first 500 fans will receive a
hockey schedule magnet, courtesy of Aspire Restaurant.
On Saturday night, Brown students with an ID can come to Meehan
between 5:30-6:45 for a pre-game BBQ sponsored by WBRU. Free pizza
from Domino's will also be served to students from 5:30-7:00. The
game is a BrowNation sponsored event and is the first event for the
Mega Bowl. In addition to the BBQ for students, the first 200 fans
will receive a "Beat Cornell" t-shirt, courtesy of Coca-Cola.
Brown's a cappella group, The Brown'sTones will be on hand to sing
the National Anthem on Saturday evening.
Several on-ice intermission contests are planned for both nights
and on Saturday night, fans will have a chance to win $2000 worth
of prizes.
