- Induction:

- Class:
- 1994
In the long line of great Brown goaltenders, Geoff Finch ’94 was one of the best.
A First Team All-ECAC selection, Finch left College Hill with a lofty list of individual accomplishments, but more importantly, he steadily elevated the prominence of the men’s ice hockey program over the course of his career and helped lead the Bears back to the NCAA Tournament.
Finch made an immediate impact as a freshman during the 1990-91 campaign, when he racked up 521 saves in 22 games with a 3.89 goals-against average, earning both ECAC and Ivy League Rookie of the Year honors. He also backstopped the Bears to an Ivy League title, as the team finished in first place among Ivy schools at 6-2-2, starting a string of four straight top-three league finishes.
Brown put together a banner season in 1992-93 with Finch in net. The team made a run to the ECAC Championship title game, following playoff wins over Yale and Harvard, and then qualified for the NCAA Tournament, marking the program’s only appearance in the national tournament since 1976. Brown also advanced to the ECAC Championship semifinal round the following year in 1994.
Finch improved his play over the course of his time at Brown, culminating in a standout senior campaign, when he was named First Team All-ECAC as the league’s top goalie that season. He earned 13 wins with 675 saves as a senior, and currently stands fifth all-time at Brown with 1,891 career saves. Finch was also a two-time Academic All-Ivy selection. In addition, Finch was the recipient of Brown’s First-Year Male Athlete Award as a freshman and the Fritz Pollard ’19 Award as a senior as the athletic department’s outstanding male varsity athlete of the year.
After graduation, Finch played professionally in the American Hockey League and the East Coast Hockey League.
