Liz Daniels Grossman ’04 was an impressive 10-time Ivy League Champion for the Brown women’s swimming & diving program. Her 10 championships included six individual titles. She was a three-time league champion in the 50 freestyle, won the 100 freestyle twice and captured a 100 backstroke title.
After winning three individual Ivy titles in 2003, Grossman qualified for the NCAA Championship for the 50 and 100 freestyle. She earned NCAA Honorable Mention All-America accolades in both events after placing 10th and 14th, respectively. For her athletic accomplishments in her junior season, Grossman was named Brown’s Marjorie Brown Smith Award recipient as the Institution’s top female athlete.
The following year, (2004), Grossman was named the Ivy League Swimmer of the Meet after winning both the 50 and 100 freestyle. She again qualified for the NCAA Championship in both events and earned Honorable Mention honors in the 50 freestyle. In addition to collegiate competition, Grossman was also an Olympic trials qualifier in 2004 for both freestyle events.
Grossman still owns four times on the program’s top-25 list, with her 50 freestyle time standing second all-time behind fellow Brown Hall of Famer Jennifer Boyd ’90.
After graduation, Grossman spent two years with the Teach for America Corps in Atlanta and then moved to Boston where she was one of the original teachers at The Edward Brooke Charter School, which is now the largest charter network in the city. She earned a master’s degree in early education and a reading specialist degree from Lesley College (M.Ed. Reading Specialist) and currently works as the media specialist at The Edward Brooke Charter School. Grossman returned to swimming in early 2017 in preparation for a swim across Lake Tahoe and is currently on a masters team in Massachusetts.
