Andrew N. Towers '93
Sport:Â Lacrosse
Year Inducted:Â 2014Â
Arguably one of the greatest lacrosse players in Brown history, Andy Towers ’93 sits atop the Brown record book with 150 career goals. A three-time All-American, including two First Team selections, Towers led the Bears to three NCAA Tournament appearances during his career. His 50 goals during the 1990 season was the most prolific scoring output in team history and he became one of seven Brown players to win Ivy League Player of the Year honors, securing the award in 1993. He also ranks third on Brown’s all-time scoring list with 203 points.
After graduating from Brown, Towers joined the professional indoor and outdoor circuits, playing in the Major Indoor Lacrosse League and National Lacrosse League for five years. In his two seasons in Major League Lacrosse, Towers garnered an All-Star selection in 2002. At the national level, Towers participated on the 1988 United States Under-19 squad and was a two-time Team USA tryout participant in 1993 and 1997.
Towers has been no stranger to the Ivy League over the years, previously serving as the head coach at Dartmouth from 2010-14 after logging five seasons as an assistant on the Big Green’s staff from 2005-09. Prior to Dartmouth, he spent the 2004 season as head coach of the University of Hartford’s lacrosse team as the Hawks recorded its highest team grade point average in program history. Â
From 2002-03 as an assistant, Towers helped guide Fairfield to their first Great Western Lacrosse League (GWLL) title and first appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Two seasons as an assistant at Brown (1994, 1996), including an Ivy League Championship and the Bears’ lone appearance in the NCAA Lacrosse Final Four, preceded Towers’ stint as an assistant at Yale (1999-2001).
