SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Freshman Mae Fullerton (Wayzata, Wis.) placed fifth overall for the women's side as the Brown University cross country teams opened the 2016 season at the Nassaney Invitational Saturday at Bryant University.
The women's team was runner-up out of six teams, trailing only Rhode Island, while the men's team ended with incomplete scoring but had three top-10 individual finishers.
Fullerton completed the 5-kilometer course in a time of 18:24.0, followed by sophomore Lucy Srour (Potomac, Md.) in seventh out of competing teams with a time of 18:31.0. Hannah Szapary (Wynnewood, Pa.), Allison Bellows (Coventry, R.I.) and Jessica Bellows (Coventry, R.I.) rounded out the Brown scorers.
Rookie Jeremy Leary (San Anselmo, Calif.) paced the men's team as he finished second overall on the 8-kilometer course in a time of 25:49.0. Freshman Jacob Stanton (East Lansing, Mich.) and sophomore Tom Hale (Loudonville, N.Y.) placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in times of 26:07 and 26:10. Nicholas Wey (Princeton, N.J.) crossed in a time of 27:37.
The Bears return to action on Friday, Sept. 16 at the Boston College Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown.
