Brian Murphy joined the Bears staff in the2010 season as an assistant coach. Murphy servesas the Bear’s hitting coach and will also instruct theBears’ infielders. Murphy will alsocoordinate the program’s recruiting efforts.
Murphy spent 2006-2009 as Assistant Coach andRecruiting Coordinator at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI,coaching the Bulldogs’ hitters, catchers, andoutfielders. During that time frame, Bryantcaptured the 2008 Northeast-10 Championship, reached two NCAARegional Finals and set a program record with 42 victories in2008. In Murphy’s four seasons with theBulldogs, the team recorded 128 victories – an average of 32per season. The Bulldogs’ offense showedconstant improvement during Murphy’s tenure, improving theteam batting average and runs per game in each of his four seasonswith the team.
During the 2004 and 2005 seasons, Murphy wasan Assistant Coach at Wheaton College in Norton, MA, coaching thehitters and catchers. The Lyons won the 2004 and 2005 NEWMACChampionship and advanced to the 2005 NCAA New England RegionalFinals.
Murphy has summer coaching experience in theCape Cod League and the Northwoods League. In2005 and 2006 Murphy served as hitting coach for the CCBL’sHyannis Mets and in 2008 he was the Head Coach of the Battle Creek(MI) Bombers in the Northwoods League.
Murphy played collegiately at MerrimackCollege in North Andover, MA where he was the team captain in2003. Murphy earned a Bachelor’s Degree inBusiness Management from Merrimack in 2003 and a Master’sDegree in Sports Management from California University ofPennsylvania in 2009.
Murphy resides with his wife Karen in Norwood,MA.
